December Markets!

Subject to weather and inventory. With the low honey yield this year and how you all have been showing up to farmers markets (you're all rockstars and I cannot thank you enough for supporting me and the bees 💛), there's a fair chance I might run out of honey by the end of the month. I still have honey sampler boxes on hand and will bring a limited amount to each market, so be sure to shop early!

End of the season. Winter screened covers are on

End of the season. Winter screened covers are on and loaded with candy sugar and an insulation board on top. The bees have been fed sugar syrup and treated for mites. I'll still visit once a month and top up the candy sugar, but both the bees and I are settling in for a nice winter rest.

This year was a challenge! Not a great year for honey yield - rainy all May and June, wild storms in July, then it stopped raining and got blazingly hot through October. I'm probably about 25-30% less honey than last year, and less than half of 2023’s bumper year. But, I can only take what nature gives me, and every year is a new year. And while there's less honey this year, there's been so much more community - you've been showing up to farmers markets, events, festivals.. I get to hear about how you enjoy honey with your tea or coffee, bee book recommendations, recipe ideas, knee-slapper jokes, stories about your travels, celebrations, and my goodness it's been tremendous. My heart is just so full and I'm so grateful for you all. 💛

Just a few markets left for the year, so I hope to see you all before the end of 2025!

Pollen pants! I'm still seeing a fair bit of poll

Pollen pants!

I'm still seeing a fair bit of pollen coming into the hives - some really beautiful oranges and yellows. Likely culprits are asters and dandelions (I saw a few dandelions still hanging on at Reservoir Park recently), and I even saw a house with lavender having another run at blooming! This is probably the last weekend for all of those plants as we slide into much cooler weather next week - well, allegedly anyway - so get it while you can girls.

Also popping a thank you in here for everyone who came to Good Food Fest last weekend. My heart is still so full, and every year it brings a sense of purpose and validation that makes all the hard work worth it for us in small, local business and agriculture. Youse guys get it, you show up, are SO excited to be there, become a part of this fantastic local community, and it's just tremendous. 💛💛💛

It's not uncommon to find spiders hanging out under a beehive roof. Usually they're these little jumping spiders which I think are actually pretty cute!

31 Days of Bees: Day 28: Ouch! A sting story
I have a recent one! My bee suit means I don't get stung a lot, but it happens a few times a year despite being pretty careful to avoid stings. I was out collecting the last of the honey supers off the hives when I felt a tickle on my leg. I thought, just a hair or a fuzzy inside my pants, I'm sure. A few minutes later, I find out it was indeed a bee in the suit, as I felt the sting. See, my suit is getting old and the elastic around the ankles has really worn out, so someone snuck up the leg of the suit and popped me one on the thigh. Nothing more than a little swelling and itching for a day or two, and the thigh is probably one of the least bothersome spots to be stung!

Probably this one! Mid July, the sun is shining just right through the trees, the bees are cleaning up honey from burr comb, and they're just so dang cute and fuzzy.
