31 Days of Bees - Day 8: A Bee's Lunch From August

31 Days of Bees - Day 8: A Bee's Lunch
From August this year. This year there seemed to be an incredible abundance of clover that bloomed early and seemed to never quit all summer long. Absolutely delightful to watch the bees work all the clover in everyone's yard.

31 Days of Bees - Day 7: Something Beautiful
This one from July this year - every year there's a beeutiful patch of zinnias that put on a show, and I always linger for a minute to watch the bees and enjoy the flowers.

SO so many great events coming up soon - hope to see you at a market soon and I cannot tell you how excited I am for Good Food Fest!

31 Days of Bees 2026 - Day 6: My Beekeeping Gear M

31 Days of Bees 2026 - Day 6: My Beekeeping Gear
Mostly the basics that come with me every day - Suit, gloves, boots, smoker, toolbox with allll the important things (smoker fuel, bandanas, weed trimmer, lighter, duct tape, hive tool, and sunscreen). The gear changes up a little bit throughout the season, but those things are definitely the most important!

Especially the duct tape. Not a season goes by without some emergency suit/gear repair that involves duct tape.

And you can definitely get sunburn through a ventilated bee suit like the one I use, so sunblock is a MUST.

Taken today at @felicity_farm_1867 with the sunshine and a little bit of a windy afternoon. Didn't slow the bees down at all though!

Bees and clover. I could sit in the grass and watch them float from flower to flower all day long. There are some days that beekeeping takes extra long because I get distracted watching them work the flowers around the hives.

31 Days of Bees 2026 - Day 3: My Favorite Hive Hah

31 Days of Bees 2026 - Day 3: My Favorite Hive
Haha already behind! I don't really have a favorite hive, but if I could give an award for most productive hive, it would definitely be the third one back at the Reservoir Park Community Garden hives here. I don't track honey weights per hive, but that one consistently cranked out frames of honey all year long!

31 Days of Bees 2026 - Day 2: Where it all Started

31 Days of Bees 2026 - Day 2: Where it all Started
May 21, 2015
We picked up our first nucleus hive the night prior and installed it that morning. Who knew a single backyard hive would eventually grow into the business I've got today?! In the beginning, the husband took on most of the beekeeping duties while I managed the smoker and handed off equipment he needed. As he was out to sea more and more, I ended up taking over all the beekeeping work and brought in more and more honey every year. I swore up and down back then that I wouldn't turn it into a business because monetizing a hobby can be such a slippery slope, but now? With the community I get to bee a part of and the people I've met along the way - it's hard to imagine not doing this!

31 Days of Bees 2026 - Day 1: Meet my Bees
I couldn't miss this - not only is it fun for me to review the year, but I hope you follow along and learn a little more about bees and what I do over here!
I have four apiary locations in Phoenixville borough, East Pikeland, East Vincent, and Charlestown Township, each with four hives for a total of 16 hives. It's hard to pick a favorite because they're each SO unique! I get to meet folks at the community garden and disc golf course, pet goats and cluck at chickens, say hi to dogs, and chat with the ducks and geese. They're all beautiful and peaceful, and those bees have some beeutiful real estate! Photos from earlier in the season this year.
Thanks @thehivebutler for continuing the tradition.

Exactly what I love to see this time of year - both sides of this frame were pretty much perfect! Keep up the good work, ladies.
